DTVS-SMART1 / DTVS-Smart1 - USB upgrade Channel Data - Updated 30-Apr-2020

The following files are supplied to load channels via USB stick. Please check your LNB frequency and download the appropriate file.

How to check the LNB Frequency:

1. Press the Menu button
2. Select SETUP. ( Password is 0000 if asked )
3. Select Channel Search
4. Select Optus D1 and press the Green button
5. Take down the LNB Frequency and then exit the menu

Instructions on how to load:

1) Unzip the file to your USB memory key.
2) Insert the USB memory key in the receiver.
3) Go to Setup and then select Upgrade.
4) Select "Upgrade channel data via USB".
5) Navigate to your file and select it.
6) Once the update is complete, the receiver will restart and your channels will be loaded.

DTVS-Smart1 Product Walkthrough - Part 1


The DTVS-Smart1 is the first of our latest range of set top boxes. We have been working on the development of this receiver since the last 12 months. This included the selection of the hardware and operating system that would allow us to deliver a product that is highly functional and is unique to the market.


The following product walkthrough describes the product and its features:

1.0 Hardware Description

1.1 Main Unit

Made in Korea, the product has a plastic and aluminium top case to offer a nice professional look and feel. It is a hybrid unit with an ARM Cortex-A9 cpu running at 2500 DMIPS and has 1GB of RAM and 4GB of Flash memory. It has a LNB input and has several outputs including eSATA for faster and larger storage devices, S/PDIF digital optical out for digital sound, Mini jack for composite output, HDMI output supporting upto 1080p resolution, 3 x USB ports at the rear of the unit and 1x USB port on the side of the unit, an SD/MMC card slot on the side of the unit, an Ethernet port, an RS232 port and a 12VDC input port. WiFi support is integrated into this unit along with Infrared and RF communication receivers to allow remote control to interact.

A power adapter converting 240VAC to 12VDC is supplied with the receiver. The accessories included are:
- User Manual
- HDMI Cable
- Mini jack to Composite cable
- RF Remote control
- 2 x AA batteries for remote control

The receiver has three indicator lights but no buttons to operate it. It requires a remote control to operate.

The physical dimensions are: (Width) 200mm x (Depth) 130mm x (Height) 40mm. It weighs 458 grams. 

1.2 Remote Control

The receiver is supplied with an RF remote control. On one side, it has the standard remote control keys and an optical trackpad which brings up the mouse cursor and allows mouse operation. On the reverse side of the remote control, a full QWERTY keyboard is supplied. The receiver will support an Infrared remote control, however, we have opted to supply an RF remote control which offered a keyboard. A free Android smartphone remote control application can be downloaded from the Google market.

A key point to note is that the RF remote control requires pairing and hence is paired with the receiver. Also the RF remote control will only work with its paired unit. There is benefit to this as it makes it possible for multiple devices to sit next to each other and remote control interaction will not affect another unit of the same model.

2.0 Standards and Compliance

For satellite reception, the receiver supports both DVB-S and DVB-S2 transmission. It also supports MPEG-2 and MPEG-4. It runs the Android 4.0 operating system which enables it for Internet communications. The receiver is classed as a Hybrid Satellite Receiver capable of supporting High Definition television or video programmes up to a resolution of 1080p.

The receiver complies with the standards associated with C-Tick, namely CISPR13 (Broadcast) and CISPR22 (ICT).

The DTVS-Smart1 is compliant with Freeview New Zealand standards and is a Freeview Approved product.

3.0 Start up and Initial Installation

At initial start up, the receiver will show an animated DTVS brand logo for about 20 to 30 seconds which the system software loads. During initial installation, you will be prompted to pair the remote control by pressing a set of keys on the remote control. Once this is done, the receiver will enter the initial installation mode.

We would like to point out that the setup is best completed using the enter/OK and the cursor keys as it will take some time to get used to the optical trackpad.

The initial setup is called First Installation and it will run through the following settings:

a) Country and Language Settings. Select English (New Zealand)

b) Display settings. This setting allows you align the picture boundary. Move to the appropriate square and line up the red border towards the end of your TV. Once done, you can press Exit.

c) Network settings. The DTVS-Smart1 supports both wired and wireless connection. Select the type of connection including how you want the network address of your DTVS-Smart1 assigned. Selecting DHCP will prompt the DTVS-Smart1 to get its address from your DHCP server or your internet router which most likely will be configured to act as a DHCP server. You can also select the manual option to assign the network address.

d) Weather settings. Select your city name. This will be used by the Weather application. 

e) Channel Location Setting. This setting allows you to select the city closest to where you are. This settings is used by the receiver to determine which regional channel to tune in and is part of the Freeview Region Service Function.

Once done, the receiver will begin checking for a signal on your dish and will select the appropriate settings and tune in the channels. Once the channels are tuned it, the final screen advising the changes requested will be completed will be shown. Continue by pressing OK.

3.1 Additional channels setup.

The initial installation will only identify and tune in Freeview channels. A "channel" file can be downloaded from our website forum to load channels manually. This file will add all Freeview channels and any extra channels that may be available.

The DTVS-Smart1 is not locked into receiving only Freeview channels via satellite. With the appropriate equipment, additional Free To Air channels can be tuned in from other satellites. DiSEqC switches are supported. Satellite setup allows setting of parameters, transponders and LNB settings.

Homecast HT9200DTR MyFreeview|HD / How to reset the HDD Full flag

Once the HDD is full, the HT9200DTR will display a message "HDD Full". To reset this flag after deleting the files, please turn off the unit via the power button at the rear of the unit. Leave for 30 seconds and turn power back on. The flag will be reset.

HDBuddy / HDBuddy Latest Firmware - Release Date 30 July 2013

We are pleased to advise release of the latest firmware for the HDBuddy Terrestrial Receiver. Improvements made:

1) Aspect ratio adjustments
2) Timer function adjustments

The firmware can be downloaded via the following link:

Instructions:

1)   Please extract the contents in the \upgrade directory on a USB stick.
2)   Select Menu/System/USB Update
3)   Select “Yes” to confirm the upgrade.
4)   After the upgrade is complete, press the "Red" button to reboot.
5)   Important Step. Must do the following.
6)   After the receiver restarts, go to Menu/System/Restore Default
7)   Select “Yes”
8)   Press the “Red” button to reboot after the "Restore Default" operation has completed.
9)   New default settings will be set for the new firmware.
10)   Once the receiver restarts. Please retune the channels.

DTVS-SMART1 / DTVS-Smart1 Loading software

Software on the DTVS-Smart1 can be loaded via a USB stick or via OTN (Over The Network).

1) USB Stick method

Please place the software in the root directory of the USB stick. Remove any other USB storage connections attached to the DTVS-Smart1 and then insert the USB the stick with new firmware into the DTVS-Smart1. Restart your DTVS-Smart1 and press the blue button on the remote control while the DTVS-Smart1 is restarting. A blue screen will appear and the software will be loaded. The DTVS-Smart1 will restart once software loading is complete.

2) OTN Method

When new software is available, the receiver will automatically detect the new software and will show the upgrade icon on the screen. Go to the Setup and the select Upgrade. Follow the onscreen prompts to carry out the upgrade.

For the last 12 months, we have been working on development of our next generation of set top boxes. We have taken into consideration feedback from our customers and end-users and have developed a new product which us rich in features and functionality.

DTVS-Smart1 is our first product in this generation of hybrid set top boxes. Based on the Android Operating System, the DTVS-Smart1 allows access to Internet based services and also high definition digital television services via satellite. It can also be enhanced by the end user by loading additional Android applications.

Homecast HT9200DTR MyFreeview|HD / Restarting while playing back files

Instructions on how to install the software are below:

1. Download and extract the file “_sw_code.sgn” to the root drive of your USB memory key.
2. Insert the USB memory key in the USB slot (behind the front panel)
3. Press the Menu button on the Homecast remote control.
4. Press the “right arrow” button on the Homecast remote until you are at the “Advanced” menu option.
5. Press the “down arrow” button to highlight “USB Transfer” and the press OK
6. You will see three panels. The left hand side will show what the current software version is. The middle should show 1.07.3B.
7. Make sure "USB to STB" transfer is highlighted and then press the OK button.
8. The software will start loading and the receiver will reboot.
9. After the receiver restarts, press the Menu button again and go to the “Information” option and press OK.
10. Check the “S/W Version” is now 1.07.3B.
11. Perform a Factory Reset and then reload the channels.

Troubleshooting

1) If your USB memory key is not recognised:

a) Please turn your receiver power off using the power switch at the back. Turn the unit on and then reinsert the USB memory key.

b) Please try a USB key that supports USB 1.1

Kaon KSF-270 / Rescanning channels on KSF-270

You can use the following method to re-scan channels on the KSF-270 if you have lost some channels:

1. Press Menu
2. Select Installation press OK
3. Enter PIN if requested. Default PIN is 0000
4. Move to "Optus D1" satellite and ensure "Optus D1" is highlighted in blue.
5. Press the Green button on the remote control to list the transponders.
6. Move to transponder labelled, "001 12483 22500 .." and ensure it is highlighted in blue.
7. Press the OK button to select the transponder. When selected, a "tick" will appear next to it.
8. Press the Red button on the remote control to show the scan popup menu.
9. Change "Network" to "on". Use the left and right arrow buttons to change the settings.
10. Press the OK button to scan. Allow the scan to finish.
11. Once the scan is finished, the number of new TV and Radio channels found will be shown.
12. Press OK to exit
13. Press OK to Save the channels found
14. Press Exit to exit the Menu
15. Check if you have all the channels.

The above method can be used on all Kaon models which has the "Automatic Freeview update" software.

Kaon KSC-570 / Retuning instructions for your KSC-570

Please use the following instructions to re-tune your receiver:

1. Press Menu
2. Select Installation and press the OK button
3. Enter PIN if requested. Default PIN is 0000
4. Highlight "Optus D1" satellite
5. Write down the value for LNB Freq. You will need this later.
6. Press MENU to go back to the previous screen
7. Select System Settings press OK
8. Enter PIN if requested. Default PIN is 0000
9. Move down to Factory Reset
10. Press OK to confirm Factory Reset. The receiver will restart and show the Easy Setup Menu
11. Select Menu Language and press OK
12. Select Audio Language and press OK
13. Select Subtitle Language and press OK
14. Set the Time to GMT+12:00 and press OK ( we are currently GMT+12:00 and during daylight savings GMT+13:00 )
15. Select the closes location from the list and press OK
16. Press OK on Channel Search
17. Highlight "Optus D1" satellite
18. On the right hand side, if the LNB Freq value is different to what you wrote down, navigate to LNB Freq and press OK to get a popup to select the correct value.
19. Press the GREEN button to show the Transponder List
20. Highlight Transponder "001. 12483 22500 H" and press the OK button. A tick will appear next to it.
21. Press the RED button to show the scan popup
22. Change the "Network" setting to ON
23. Press OK to search
24. Once the search is complete the number TV and Radio channels found will be shown. Press OK to continue.
25. Press OK to exit
26. Press OK to Save the channels found
27. Press Exit to exit the Menu
28. Check if you have all the channels.
